FAQ

How ExpressPass Works?

Once the booking has been made, we will forward your details to the Instructor who we assign to you. The instructor will contact you within 10 working days to confirm the date, time and location of your lessons.

Unless specifically requested at the time of the booking, either a male or female Instructor will be provided for your lesson.

Lessons should start within 30 days after payment has been made and a block of lessons should be completed and all taken within 4 months of the first booking else we will consider that the student has decided not to continue, under these circumstances refunds will not be considered.

If you have booked a practical test as part of your Express Pass course, then this will be included within your course hours as the final hour of your course. So, for example, when you book a 6 hour course with Express Pass, this will include 5 hours of tuition plus your practical test.

When you submit your booking form to us, this does not mean your booking for driving lessons has been accepted. If you cannot be supplied with driving lessons, we will inform you of this and we will not process your booking enquiry and issue any refunds if applicable.

Waiting time and Availability

Once you book in, we spend up to 10 working days looking for your driving test. We’ll book it according to your preferences, and how long your course is. When the date is finalised, your course will be arranged to go alongside it. DVSA

Course Structure

You can choose the amount of hours you drive per day. This ranges from fully intensive (5-6 hours per day) to semi-intensive (minimum 2 hours per day). We’ll try to fit to your schedule as much as possible – so if you work, we have options.

Which course is right for me?

If you need some more advice about courses, contact us and we’ll help you decide on the right course. If you’d like to get the expert opinion of one of our instructors before making a decision, you can also take a 2 hour course assessment. During this assessment, an instructor will critically assess your current driving ability to recommend the best course for you.

DVSA
According to the DVSA, it takes an average of 45 hours of driving tuition to get up to test standard. If you are a complete beginner, we would therefore recommend taking one of our longest courses in order to ensure you are adequately prepared for the test. If you have more driving experience, a shorter course is likely to be more suitable. Our sales team will help you to determine the right course for you. It’s also possible to take a course assessment with one of our Express Pass instructors.

EXPRESS PASS FAQ
They will honestly and critically assess your level of driving ability and recommend you an appropriate number of course hours in order to get you up to the required standard to pass your test. You can book a course assessment with us for just £30.

Your Instructor

When you book a course with us, you’ll be assigned an instructor. Each of our instructors has years of experience in professional driving tuition and all of them are DVSA-approved. Our instructors are friendly and reliable, and boast excellent pass rates and he will be responsible to;

Provide a presentable, insured, properly maintained and dual controlled car for each lesson.

Provide training on a one-to-one basis with no other learner in the car.

Honour the full time booked for each lesson, which should include an introduction, practical training and a debrief at the end of Your lesson.

Collect any of the remaining balance for the course.

What do I need to do before I can start driving?

You need to be at least 17 years of age and if you have not already done so, apply for a provisional license from the DVLA. You can do this online or by getting an application form from the post office. It is also worth having an eyesight check, but in any event, ensure you can read a standard car number plate at 20.5 meters

Is automatic quicker to pass than a manual driving test?

For some drivers who are looking to get on the road as quick as possible, it may be better to have an automatic-only licence. Automatic cars are generally easier and quicker to learn in, since there is no emphasis on learning to use the clutch or gearstick.

Not only are they easier (and more relaxing) to drive than a manual, in some cases they can be better on fuel and can cost less to maintain.

They also reduce the chance of parts going wrong – for example, if your clutch control isn’t perfect, you won’t wear out the clutch in an automatic car.

As well as being easier to drive, in some cases automatic versions of cars can actually be more efficient than their manual counterparts.

They can be faster, too – many dual-clutch transmissions in particular can change gears quicker than humans can, shaving crucial tenths of a second off the 0-62mph time

Can I drive a manual with an automatic licence?

No. If you have an automatic driving licence, you can only drive an automatic.

How long is my theory test pass valid, if I have not yet passed my practical test?

Your theory pass is valid for two years. If you do not pass your practical test in this time, the theory pass will expire and you will have to retake your theory test.

Can I start driving lessons without having passed the theory test?

Yes, you can. In fact, we believe it is better that you combine theory and practical training. This way you can put your theory knowledge into practice and see how those two separate skills work together.

How many lessons should I have?

The average learner needs 20 hours of practice to pass the driving test, in addition to 45 hours of driving lessons.

This is only an average though and shouldn’t be something you feel you have to compare yourself to.

Some take fewer and some take longer to feel comfortable and ready to take their test – the important thing is to take the test when you are ready, not being the first one out of your friends to pass.

Your instructor will let you know when you are ready, but most of the time you will feel it too – when the time comes you can both come to the decision together and then discuss how best to prepare for your test.

Can I change my Instructor?

Our fleet of high-grade, DVSA-approved instructors have helped hundreds of learners to become safe, confident drivers. As a result, they’re in very high demand throughout the year. Because of this, it is not normally possible to change instructor once you’ve already started your course.

However, we appreciate that, in a small minority of cases, a pupil may be assigned an instructor that isn’t a good fit. In the unlikely scenario that any major issues arise relating to an instructor, we will work closely with the pupil to seek a suitable resolution, including the possibility of changing to a different instructor.

I already have test booked, Can you find me earlier date?

Yes! Express Pass specialise in finding driving test cancellations. This means we can help find you a test that takes place weeks or even months ahead of standard waiting times.

When will the Test take place?

Express Pass guarantee that we’ll beat standard DVSA waiting times for tests. We do this by finding cancellations. As such, we are unable to give exact dates upon booking. However, we will always try to find a suitable test for you that takes into account your preferred time, date, and location.

What if I am not Ready for test?

It’s normal to have some last-minute nerves, but if your instructor advises you that you’re not test ready, then we can move your test forward, giving you more time. As long as you give us three clear working days before your test, we can change your test date for a little admin fee.

Do the examiners have a set quota of people they can pass IN a month?

No, they do not. In fact, the examiners really want you to do well in your test. They are not actively looking to fail you.
